The perfect way to preserve your little one's footprint in a festive way is by creating a charming and memorable keepsake that captures the essence of their growth during the holiday season. This festive footprint keepsake not only serves as a beautiful decoration for your home but also acts as a sentimental reminder of how quickly your child is growing. It can also make a thoughtful gift for family members, allowing them to share in the joy of your child's growth and the spirit of the holidays!
Here's what you need:
air dry clay
green acyclic paint (I used 'Christmas Green' by Apple Barrel)
paint brushes
UV resin
ribbon
Everything I used can be found here.
How to make it + helpful tips: (video here)
Start by rolling out your air dry clay into an oval larger than your little one's foot. I wouldn't make it thicker than 1/2 inch or else it'll be too heavy to hang on your Christmas tree.
Press their foot firmly onto the air clay. Cut around their footprint and remove excess clay.
Mix clay and little bit of water to smooth out the edges of the footprint ornament for a cleaner look. Try to not use too much water to prevent cracking when drying.
Use a straw to create a hole to hang. Avoid making the hole too close to the edge to be able to support the weight when hanging the ornament. Write your little ones name and year (optional).
Let the footprint air dry for a few days. The thicker/bigger the ornament the longer it needs to dry. My toddler's footprint was ready in about 4 days. You know it's completely dry when the footprint changes color to more white and it's lighter in weight.
Once it's dry, use acyclic paint to paint the footprint. I used 2 coats.
For the UV resin, read the instructions first for curing time and safety precautions. Use a small paint brush to apply the UV resin applying an even layer on the top and side of the footprint. Cure for 1-2 minutes under a UV light and make sure to cure the sides as well. Let it rest for a few minutes. Once the top and sides are cured and dried, repeat for the bottom of the footprint. Throw away paint brush. If you don't want to use UV resin, try mod podge gloss or a gloss sealant spray!
Add ribbon and you're done!
